Officers from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to a Violet Avenue home at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, where there was a report of a domestic incident.

The investigation led to the arrest of Poughkeepsie resident Richard Johnson, 29, who allegedly stabbed his victim in the upper abdomen with a knife. Johnson’s victim was transported to the MidHudson Regional Hospital by a private vehicle for treatment on “serious, not non-fatal injuries,” police said.

Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies. He was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. Johnson is scheduled to appear back in court this week to respond to the charges.
